The 5th annual Reading Pride festival is being held on 30th August 2008 at Kings Meadow, Reading. Our free-to-enter event celebrates our local community and promotes an environment in favour of LGBT equality.
This popular family day out will attract around 7,000 people, of all ages and from all walks of life. The day starts around 11am when our parade departs from the Wynford Arms, Kings Road. The procession will make its way through the town centre, full of colour, enthusiasm and energy, before arriving at Kings Meadow, when the festival opens at midday.
Kings Meadow is just a hop, skip and a jump behind Reading’s train station. You’ll know we’re there by the sight of the big fun fair and the lively music from our attractions. There’s a lot to choose from. Our cabaret tent will be home to our favourite and funniest stand-up comedy acts. Our live stage will host a packed line up of performers, from local bands to singing legends.
For a little extra fun our theme for this year is “Saints & Sinners”. If you are a little devil or a beautiful angel you can join in and dress to impress. Relax in the park and enjoy the wide choice of refreshments we’ll have on offer. Or spend the day in glorious style, sipping champagne in the VIP areas, open to members of Reading Pride.
And there’s plenty for the youngsters to do in our Kids’ Zone. From karaoke, to inflatable sumo wrestling, or maybe a quick spin on the gyroscope! Our market place will be jammed full of stalls and many of the local LGBT friendly services from around the Thames Valley will be there to tell you more about the help and support they have to offer you, your family and friends.
Then, as the suns starts to go down, we’ve lined up a number of top DJs to get you in the party mood for an evening of “After Pride” parties at various venues around the town centre.
Reading Pride is a registered charity, run solely by volunteers, aiming to promote equality and diversity in relation to Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) people in Reading and across the Thames Valley.
As they have in previous years, we hope everyone enjoys our festival, and we look forward to seeing you and your friends at Kings Meadow on 30th August.
