We are a registered charity run solely by volunteers, aiming to promote equality in relation to LGBT people, in Reading and across the Thames Valley.

Meet the Committee / Andrew Adams

Parade Coordinator

When did you become a committee member?
I joined the committee at the AGM in December 2008.

What other volunteering work have you done?
I am currently President of the Reading University LGBT Group.

When/Where did you hear about Reading Pride?
I already knew some people on the committee, and had volunteered as a steward in 2007 as well as organising the RUSU presence at Pride 2008. We then hosted an information night at the university in November 08 where some of the committee came along for a lively debate and discussion on Pride.

What do you do for Reading Pride now?
I am the Pride Parade Chair / Co-ordinator, responsible for organising and developing the parade aspect of Reading Pride, as well as helping with a variety of things throughout the year.

How has volunteering for Reading Pride benefited your personal/professional development?
Although my day job is very different, being involved with a third sector organisation such as Pride always helps to develop your knowledge and skills, in particular in dealing with public sector stakeholders / community organisations / individuals and shows you are willing to invest your time in a good cause.

Would you recommend volunteering for Reading Pride?
Absolutely, we have such a variety of backgrounds and skills amongst the people on the committee and those who aren’t but who volunteer their time or skills – we will find a use for any willing pair of hands however much or little time you can spare us.

What is your best Reading Pride moment?
There are so many but up there must be having to stand in for the sound person on the cabaret stage in 2007 and getting abused by all the drag queens for getting it wrong – my name was slandered every time they visited Reading for months afterwards!
