Meet the Committee / Roy Perestrelo

Media & Press

When did you become a committee member?
I became a committee member in February 2008.

What other volunteering work have you done?
I was a trustee for the flagship charity KCVC-London between 2000-2007. I have also dedicated my Christmas days since 1995 to helping out in soup kitchens within my local area from Notting Hill, Marylebone and Reading. I am also a proud supporter of a number of charities which I actively campaign for Including Amnesty International, Sohoboyz, Cats Protection, Stop Child Executions in Iran and Oxfam through The Perestrelo Foundation, the family foundation which I have actively been part of since a very very wee age.

When/Where did you hear about Reading Pride?
After attending Reading Pride – I found that it was an organisation that I wanted to be part of.

What have you done for Reading Pride in the past?
Well if I am honest I have always attended Reading Pride rather than having anything to do with it, but had a chat with Lorna McArdle who chairs Reading Pride (very well if I have to say so) I was HOOKED!

What do you do for Reading Pride now?
I am the Sponsorship Co-oridnator, so I am the first port of call for individuals and organisations wanting to sponsor Reading Pride. So I will take sponsors through the various opportunities thats we can offer and work together to make it a reality and to ensure that sponsors realise the benefits.

How has volunteering for Reading Pride benefited your personal/professional development?
Well other than meeting other incredibly inspired people it has shown me the work that so many do in Reading for all behind the scenes which normally no one would see but makes such a strong contribution to the LGBT community. As for me personally it has enriched my view of LGBT organisations and how I can professionally be more use to them.

Would you recommend volunteering for Reading Pride?
Yes totally — Even if you can only spare a few hours a week, we need all the help we can - as putting on a event such as Reading Pride is no easy task, so more the merrier as the old saying goes.

What is your best Reading Pride moment?
My best Reading Pride moment, hmmmmm I don't think I can comment, ask me instead ;-)
