We are a registered charity run solely by volunteers, aiming to promote equality in relation to LGBT people, in Reading and across the Thames Valley.

Meet the Committee / Sarah Rose

Stage & Entertainments Manager

When did you become a committee member?
I joined Reading Pride in December 2007.

What other volunteering work have you done?
All sorts – from running a Guide Company to teaching I.T., Maths and English! I also play an active role in supporting a number of charities, including Sussex Beacon and Naomi House.

When/Where did you hear about Reading Pride?
In the run up to Reading Pride 2006.

What have you done for Reading Pride in the past?
I have been Membership Administrator since I joined the committee.

What do you do for Reading Pride now?
I am still Membership Adminstrator – which involves keeping the membership informed of what Reading Pride is up to during the year, and of course highlighting what to expect on the day. I also keep the membership database updated, issue membership cards, and do all the admin work associated with the membership side of things.

How has volunteering for Reading Pride benefited your personal/professional development?
It has widened my skill set – and allowed me to meet some very committed and enthusiastic people.

Would you recommend volunteering for Reading Pride?
Absolutely. Reading Pride can only exist because of its extremely keen band of volunteers. Without the volunteers, whether Committee members or people who help in the run up, and on the day, Pride would not happen.

What is your best Reading Pride moment?
2008 was my first Pride as a committee member. Knowing exactly how much hard work had gone into the organisation of the event, and set up of the park for the day itself, the sight of thousands of people enjoying themselves was certainly something to behold!
