Reading Pride Awards 2010
This year over the past two months, we have given the people of Reading and the Thames Valley the chance to vote for the Reading Pride Awards. We will presenting the winners on the Main Stage at 3pm!
1. Best LGBT Lifetime Achievement
Winner: Lorna McArdle (26%)
Runner-ups: Peter Tatchell (21%), Roy Perestrelo (21%), John Wood (16%)
This award is to recognise the work of an individual whose work in the field of LGBT support services has changed and enriched the lives of those they work with. It is to recognise a lifetime of work and community support.
2. Best LGBT Campaigner
Winner: Roy Perestrelo (40%)
Runner-ups: Peter Tatchell (27%), Lorna McArdle
(13%), John Wood (7%)
This award is to celebrate and acknowledge the work of a campaigner, who through sheer perseverance has overcome all obstacles and feared no reprisals for the campaigns they have led on. This award is to say thank you for putting yourself on the front line for equality.
3. Best LGBT Charity
Winner: Thames Valley Positive Support [TVPS] (39%)
Runner-ups: BeYou (29%), Terrence Higgins Trust [THT] (7%), Stonewall
(7%)
This award is to recognise the work and dedication of a charity which serves the LGBT community. It is open to all and is a recognition of the effort and work you have put into the LGBT community.
4. Best LGBT Friendly Venue
Winner: The Granby (31%)
Runner-ups: The Wynford Arms (28%), The Redan, Wokingham (8%), Purple Turtle (6%)
This award recognises the work done by the venue in Reading and the Thames Valley that provides the most welcoming and supportive atmosphere for the LGBT community and their friends.
5. Outstanding LGBT Achievement
Winner: The Team at Thames Valley Positive Support
[TVPS] (19%)
Runner-ups: The Team at The Granby (14%), The Team at BeYou (9%), Peter Tatchell (9%)
This award is to recognise an individual or an organisation that is currently working to support and enhance the lives of those in the LGBT community.
6. Best School or College for LGBT Support
Winner: Denefield School, Reading (25%)
Runner-ups: Prospect School (17%), University of Reading (17%), Highdown School (8%)
This award recognises the work done by a school or college in the Thames Valley to support the LGBT community.
7. The Peoples Choice Award
Winner: Peter Tatchell
This award is to recognise the commitment of an organisation or individual to the LGBT cause as a focal point for the general public.
